Taming Uncertainty

Man lives in a world of surmise, of mystery, of uncertainties.

John Dewey

Today I await uncertain news. It could alter my every tomorrow or only a few. While I float this in-between, I abandon thought. It’s in an eerie peace that I resign to what will come, is.

January often embarks us into uncertainty. Our projected plans will be satisfied by a few gained yearly goals. ‘There’s always next year.’ Consistent comfort food for the ambitious; we feed on crumbs while believing the bigger bite lies just in reach.

The past few Januarys played different rules for some; no gains, no crumbs, and goals lost. To those who now reestablish a foothold, congratulations. Be proud. To those still off-balance, don’t give up. Don’t allow January’s side-eye to discourage small triumphs toward normalcy. Check yourself and breathe deeply. Returning to square one is a fresh start.

These turbulent years made me wiser. I stare down the January curve-balls I can now read. I’m on to her. I’m rebuilding, rebranding, and returning to my square-one, fresh start. My new forward is my past abbreviated; don’t replay failures and expand on success. Simplicity ironically gained after forced reinvention of my wheel.

I tell this story because it is not singular. It’s your story or of someone you know. I share because the unknown can be tamed, it can become less feared, and we can become more fearless.

And I’m determined no matter the outcome, my awaited news will not affect my shiny new wheel, my reinvention of me. It’s merely a curveball, and I’ve gained experience.

January 2023. Be brave, start fresh, and make yours good!
