Dry January

I don’t need alcohol to see the world in its depths, I carry the sun in me.

Lamine Pearlheart

These things I enjoy dry; my humor, my eggs (scrambled), and my occasional martini (extra-dirty). A January never ranked on my list. I’ve not entertained a dry month, but its popularity has me curious.

In a nutshell, a January booze-snooze inspires a mind/body reboot. Abstainers claim improvements overall in sleep, weight loss, cognitive clarity, blood pressure, and reduced heart/liver health issues—all thanks to their booze-less glass.

I advocate better health, but to cocktail is to experience. Clinking cubes, fizzing seltzer, a twist of lime; this event is essential in many of our lives. And now, poof? No clink, no fizz, no twist?

Mixologists have anticipated these trepidations by creating the most delicious dry versions of our favorites. Listed below are compilations of some of this year’s finest offerings:

Dry January Cocktails

Apple and Raspberry Mocktail: Apple juice, Agave nectar with a splash of soda water. Poured over ice, delicious.

Caramel Apple Mocktail: Caramel sauce, apple cider and ginger beer. Apple slices and cinnamon sticks to garnish.

Green Tea Moscow Mule: Green tea, ginger, lime juice and mint. Cousin to the traditional Moscow Mule.

Pear Rosemary Mocktail: Fresh rosemary, lemon and sweet pears.

Sparkling Blood Orange Mocktail: Blood orange juice, honey and vanilla.

Enjoy indulging in this new January tradition. I know I have.
Salute!
